About Purple Tie

About Purple Tie

Purple Tie Foundation supports young people in Alberta and Akwa Ibom State through scholarships, school programs and community initiatives.

Our story

Co-founded by sisters Moriah and Neriah Otu, Purple Tie brings together the communities that have shaped their lives. Our work connects rural Alberta with Akwa Ibom State through education and youth leadership.

Our annual essay writing competition began in 2021. Since then, the program has grown through six seasons, alongside scholarships and school outreach in Alberta.

We want young people to have access to support they can use as they move through school, enter new opportunities and take responsibility in their communities.

A family commitment

Victoria Inyang-Otu is a constant inspiration for the Foundation’s work. Her commitment to community and her example as the founder of VIKEM Homes helped shape the sisters’ belief in what young women can achieve.

That belief continues in our work with girls and young people across the communities we serve.
